Jarkko Mandelin founded Kinetic Orchestra in 2009. The company’s distinctive combination of acrobatic partnering, martial arts and contemporary dance has made Jarkko Mandelin a requested choreographer and an internationally recognised workshop teacher. Alongside working as a dancer and choreographer, Mandelin has been teaching and keeping workshops for almost twenty years and is regularly teaching at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance. Equality, equity, and continuous dialogue are values that Jarkko cherishes in his work.
Together with Oskari Turpeinen, Jarkko will facilitate a partnering workshop. Sharing weight, redirecting the partner’s movements as well as questioning the normative roles of flyers and bases you will find many ways to balance and diversify partnering. We will practice continuous momentum, distance and speed reading and sequencing of movement combinations. The classes will be rounded off with dance phrases from Kinetic Orchestra’s repertoire, moving across the studio together.

Originally from Zagreb, Croatia, Lucija Romanova has worked and danced with Jasmin Vardimon Company, Tribe Company and others in London (UK), with the Bodhi project in Salzburg (AT), Theater Oberhausen (DE) as well as creating her own works. As a teacher she has been sharing her approach to dance at many of the big dance festivals across Europe, as well as invitations to professional dance formation programs, e.g. Performact and others.
During DO Festival 2024 Lucija will be sharing her Expressionist workshop: a dynamic atmosphere where we push and expand the boundaries of physical strength, stamina and detailed expression. It is targeted for dance artists and movement enthusiasts who wish to grow in endurance, creativity and focus. We will pass through many different layers and approaches to movement. A few key words:
body as one homogenous instrument of power // dissolve our minds and bodies // learn, relearn, and investigate // dialogue and harmony between all layers of cognitive awareness

During DO Festival 2024 the Collective Nest crew will welcome movers to start the day together with a fresh morning class. Ranging from body-awareness tasks to impro scores to fun phrases and maybe even some partnering exercises our main goal is to get together and to get ready for the coming workshops of each day. The Collective Nest crew will be hosting the warm-up classes during week 2 and on Monday and Friday during week 1 of DO Festival 2024.
